Warhammer 40,000

"He who allows the alien to live, shares its crime of existence."
Inquisitor Apollyon
I wanted to make a squad of Sternguard Veterans for my Ultramarines. In a stroke of inspiration I thought of the Deathwatch. They are not chapter specific, so I can use them for all of my marine armies.
I made 5 of them when the original rules for them showed up in the White Dwarf. The problem with those guys is that they are too tooled up for Sternguard. I had a Librarian leading it, two power weapons, a power fist and a heavy bolter. I figured that I could bring the heavy bolter and one of the power weapon guys over into this squad. If I'm going to paint 8 guys I may as well paint 10 (or in this case, 11, as I'm going to have a spare guy to replace the heavy weapon guy.). I'm also going to give them a Rhino to zip across the table and blow away some Xenos!

So, we have Sergeant Gasparus of the Ultramarines, Khuchar of the Storm Lords, Sebastian of the Crimson Fists (Combat Squad Leader), Alvar of the Imperial Fists, Teodor of the Fleash Tearers, Onggur of the White Scars, Baeleog of the Space Wolves, Sokol of the Blood Angels, Magyar of the Mortifactors, Venator of the Aroura Chapter and Ainea of the Red Scorpions.
They have performed well in 40K and even better in Kill Teams. Go figure that a Deathwatch Kill Team would work for the game named after them. The biggest problem I had was facing vehicles. I gave the heavy bolter Marine 'Tank Hunters' and it helps. Still, maybe something a little stronger to deal with transports and skimmers? I can field a Sergeant with a claw, four normal brothers, a heavy bolter and a missile launcher for 200 points. The launcher can help against both light vehicles and troops. I need one more Deathwatch Trooper... I think an Iron Hands Marine would be interesting. A chance to make some bionics. It may even make sense that he can fire his missile launcher on the move then. After all, he would be a prime canidate for 'Relentless' along with the 'Slow and Purposeful' Heavy Bolter and the 'Furious Charge' Lightning Claw Sergeant. We will see.

Like the other orders of the Inquisition, the Ordo Xenos has its own Ordo Militant - the Deathwatch. Across the galaxy there are alien civilisations that threaten mankind, from the monstrous Tyranids to the spectral Necron and their C'tan masters. It is the sacred task of the Deathwatch to stand sentry against these ancient races. They are ready to act should such ancient evils ever rise against mankind once more. The Deathwatch form the first, and often only, line of defense against these inhuman horrors.
